Using the power of light\u2014which alters materials, spaces, and perceptions\u2014to bring objects and their surroundings to life. Telling the poetic story of the relationship that can bloom between us and objects when we let ourselves go.<\/p>\n<p>This is the origin of David Szauder&#8217;s project for What&#8217;s in a Lamp?: a multimedia artist, Szauder is a pioneer in using artificial intelligence to create choreography, visual artwork, animations, and imagery that explore the relationship between people, technology, and art history.<\/p>\n<p>Working with Foscarini lamps, Szauder created a Ballet M\u00e9canique inspired by Fernand L\u00e9ger&#8217;s famous work of the same name. In it, the lamps come alive, dance, and evolve, mesmerizing viewers with beauty and sparking their imagination.<\/p>\n<p>His process begins by collecting and creating visual material, which he then assembles while providing precise inputs to generative AI. Today, almost everyone has powerful creative tools at their fingertips. The challenge is no longer accessing technology, but developing a distinctive visual language and a meaningful artistic voice.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">What is the best and worst aspect of your profession today?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">The best part is the freedom to navigate between different mediums\u2014exhibitions, public projections, theater, music, fashion. The worst part is the sheer speed at which images are produced and consumed. It has become increasingly difficult to create something that actually makes people stop and pause.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">You worked on the premiere of <i data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"30\">Wunderland<\/i> at the Hamburg Ballet. What does this experience reveal about multimedia art, and about your work in particular?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\">It shows that multimedia art no longer needs to be confined to a screen. In <i data-path-to-node=\"17\" data-index-in-node=\"76\">Wunderland<\/i>, my visual world took on a physical form through the costumes. For me, this was a significant expansion of my practice: the images were no longer merely observed, but lived in and performed.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\"><b data-path-to-node=\"18\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">You work with artificial intelligence, but you also try to clarify its role for the public. What is the main message of your book <i data-path-to-node=\"18\" data-index-in-node=\"130\">Glitches &amp; Glory<\/i>?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\">The book explores the interplay between human imagination, memory, and technology. Artificial intelligence is present, but it is not the author of the work. The central message is that while tools change, artistic responsibility, intent, and authorship remain inherently human.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">What kind of cultural and public awareness would be needed to ensure the ethical use of AI in the arts?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\">We need greater transparency and a deeper understanding of how these systems operate. People should know where the data comes from, how images are generated, and what role the artist plays. Education shouldn&#8217;t just focus on how to use technology, but also on authorship, ethics, and critical thinking.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"22\"><b data-path-to-node=\"22\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">How do you create your dreamlike atmospheres?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"23\">They usually stem from something familiar\u2014an old photograph, a face, an object, a personal memory. Then I introduce elements that don&#8217;t quite add up. The atmosphere emerges from the tension between recognition and uncertainty\u2014from the feeling of knowing the world you&#8217;re looking at, while knowing that something within it is off.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"24\"><b data-path-to-node=\"24\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">How do you use your Instagram account?<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">I use it as an evolving visual diary and as a direct communication channel with an international audience. It allows me to test ideas, gauge responses, and share work outside traditional institutional frameworks.
