The voyage of Lumiere in a video project

17/12/2020

Foscarini celebrates 30 years of Lumiere with a video-project and a dedicated Landing-page. A narrative of a collective history – from 1990 to 2020 – that becomes a story around and through the product.

1990: the collaboration between Foscarini and the designer Rodolfo Dordoni generates Lumiere: a lampshade in blown glass paired with an aluminium tripod, in an innovative reinterpretation of the classic abat-jour typology. Foscarini decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this product-icon by offering an original context of interpretation for a design object, immersing it in the wider historical and social framework that has accompanied its journey into the present.

A special video-project – first released on our social channels and now collected in a dedicated Landing page – that represents an “inventory” of facts and personalities, technological and creative revolutions, changes of style and habits, as well as the most important milestones of design, revisited in a flow of sounds and moving images, the result of a major effort of research, selection and editing. The project bears witness to the years crossed by Lumiere as an icon of constant timeliness, an ideal fil rouge connecting the various cycles of the past.

The result is a rapid, syncopated visual account, an engaging narrative of sounds, voices and images across three decades of culture, technology, politics, lifestyle and – of course – many icons of Italian design.

Previewed in Milan, in the company’s space on Corso Monforte, the video project can now be viewed on the Foscarini Instagram channel and on the landing page https://lumiere.foscarini.com//, where it is possible to discover the 30 videos covering the key events of each year, from 1990 to 2020.
